Elizabeth Melendez

Elizabeth Melendez is the Assistant Principal at Frank D. Spaziano Elementary School. She has spent her entire educational career working in the Providence Public School District (PPSD), and has been an Assistant Principal for the past 10 years.

Elizabeth earned her Bachelor's degree in World Language and Education from the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, Rhode Island. She earned her Master's degree in School Leadership from Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island.

Elizabeth's philosophy for education is that students should have the highest quality learning environment that focuses on providing students with rigorous learning opportunities that honors students' culture and diversity and ensures every student's emotional, social, and academic needs are being met to prepare them to be lifelong learners and have a positive impact in the world. She believes students must be at the center of the learning community and it should be reflected through the mission statement, curriculum, and in every interaction and decision-making.

As a leader, Elizabeth is committed to creating a positive school environment that allows staff to flourish and, in turn, students to excel by establishing high expectations for students and staff, leading with a sense of urgency and a growth mindset, and promoting collaboration amongst all stakeholders. She is committed to applying her leadership skills while continuing to learn new skills and build leadership capacity.

Gerome Muriel

Gerome Muriel is the current Assistant Principal at Frank D. Spaziano Elementary School. He has been working in the Providence Public School District (PPSD) for the past 20 years in various roles; ten years as a High School Math Teacher, eight years as a Math Coach, and two years as an Assistant Principal.

Gerome grew up in La Paz, Bolivia, where he went to school and college. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Economics while in Bolivia, and completed two Master's degrees when he came to Rhode Island; one in Business Administration and the other in Education.

Gerome's vision for Frank D. Spaziano Elementary School is that, together with new students and staff, they will make Spaziano's new home an inspiring place to learn. Since the beginning of his career, his goal has been to provide an engaging environment where students and teachers alike can flourish.
