Courtney Monterecy is the current Principal at Mary E. Fogarty Elementary School. She has worked in education for 24 years, all with the Providence Public School District (PPSD). In 2020, Courtney was named RI Elementary School Principal of the Year by the Rhode Island Association of School Principals (RIASP). This principal is acknowledged by his/her peers for the exemplary contributions he/she has made to the profession. The program honors school principals who place student learning at the center, set high expectations for student development, oversee standards-based teaching and learning, utilize data in making decisions, and engage the community in the shared responsibility for student achievement.

Prior to becoming a Principal, Courtney was a classroom teacher for ten years, a Reading Coach for two years, a District ELL Specialist for one year, and an Assistant Principal at Veazie Street Elementary School for one year. This will be her tenth year as Principal of Fogarty Elementary.

Courtney earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. She went on to earn her English as a Second Language Certification from Rhode Island College in Providence, Rhode Island, and received her Master's in Education - Administration from Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island.

Mary E. Fogarty Elementary School has been on the rise in all areas: academics, school cultures, and family engagement partnerships. Courtney says the school has done tremendous work in creating a family of students, staff, and community. Her philosophy for the upcoming school year is that the people who make up the school determine the outcomes. She believes that no programs or initiatives will ever replace great teachers. The school continues to empower their staff to grow and support each other in this work.
