• Providence Public School District (PPSD) solidified a Turnaround Action Plan (TAP) in June 2020 detailing the District’s commitments and outcomes over the next five years. As part of this plan, the district’s theory of action provides the framework for how the District will actualize these goals with four key pillars of success. These pillars include developing and instituting a coherent academic vision, recruiting, developing, and retaining world-class talent, strengthening support for all students, and empowering principals, teachers, parents and the community to make decisions based on the needs of students.

Providence Public Schools will launch a comprehensive community engagement plan consisting of surveys and structured focus groups and summits with members of the Providence Public Schools community. School-based design teams composed of students, staff, community members, and families will work closely with their respective school principal, design fellow and design consultants. Each school design team will help steer the design process in conjunction with the school principal and design fellow. These collaborative opportunities will deepen community engagement and amplify demand for change at the school level.

The design fellow will lead the design team throughout the school year and will deeply engage with the community advisory boards (CABs) for their respective campus. Through this engagement and through the lens of the district redesign framework, design teams, school leaders and design fellows will develop school core beliefs, a call to action, and teacher and learner profiles.
