    Inspiring Minds 

    Inspiring Minds will offer the KidsBridge Summer Learning Program from Monday, July 8th, through Friday, August 16, 2024. Eligible students residing in Providence and will enter kindergarten in the fall of 2024. The program’s start and end times are 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. The program mirrors the school day to increase children’s familiarity with the classroom norms and school-wide expectations and ensures students and their families know what to expect in kindergarten.

    Extended School Year Program PK-12

    Extended School Year, or ESY, is provided per special education regulations for preschool, elementary, middle and high school students with disabilities, in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs, or IEPs. Students qualify to participate in the ESY program when specific criteria set by the RI Department of Education have been met.

    Passport to Summer Learning

    In partnership with the Providence Public Library (PPL), students of all ages are encouraged to visit the many educational and community resources we have in our city. Pick up a passport and log your visits to places like Roger Williams Park Zoo, the RISD Museum, and more! PPSD will provide incentives to students who complete their passport by the end of the summer.

    Boys and Girls Club 

    The Boys and Girls Club Summer Learning Program is a full –day learning experience that combines academic instruction with fun and hands-on enrichment activities, field trips, and service projects.  The mornings of the program will be dedicated to the Bell Xcel program. This program is designed to help youth gain new academic skills and prepare to enter school in the fall ready to excel. The afternoons offer swimming lessons, gym & outdoor activities, arts & crafts, etc.. Outside providers will offer additional enrichments activities. Previous enrichment activities included such things as acting workshops, animal presentations and hands on STEM demonstrations.

    Generation Teach  

    Generation Teach provides direct service in summer learning, talent recruitment, and leadership development. They  specialize in STEM, social-emotional learning, enrichment, anti-racist practices, and restorative justice. 

    Our interconnected program model:

    • Engages 2nd to 8th -grade students in summer learning in our 5-week GT STEAM Academy
    • Invests local undergraduate and high-school students in teaching through our award-winning AmeriCorps Summer Teaching Fellowship
    • Develops professional teachers as leaders in our multi-month AmeriCorps Leadership Residency

    Sylvan Learning Center

    Sylvan’s courses provide instruction  that is systematic, intensive and explicit. Courses are designed to address students’ needs by engaging them in explicit instruction that addresses skill gaps, providing individualized opportunities for practice, and incorporating appropriate levels of programmatic scaffolding. These instructional approaches allow us to provide core academic courses to students in ways that meet their individual needs and support their year-round learning. Sylvan Learning maximizes the instructional effectiveness of each program by:

    • Identifying skill gaps at the start of the program through careful assessment
    • Creating an instructional plan for each student
    • Using a curriculum that is aligned to national and state education standards
    • Providing ongoing evaluation and daily monitoring to track achievements

    Teatro Ecas   

    The ECAS Theater classes offer children and young people the opportunity to pose challenges, innovate and receive high quality education. The classes are aimed at students with skills, of any rank and regardless of their cultural origin. Classes are taught in Spanish and in bilingual formats, with a concentration on literacy and love of language.  

    Our theater classes:
    Develop imagination and love of art, Provoke investigating the world through a creative process, Involve the participants in a process of artistic and personal growth, Provide self-confidence and raise their self-esteem.

    Beat The Streets  New England

    Beat the Streets New England (BTSNE) will provide the Coaches in Training (CIT) program in partnership with Providence Public Schools (PPSD). The CIT program is designed to empower Providence youth through leadership development, peer-to-peer mentoring, and entrepreneurship opportunities.

    Boys and Girls Club     

    The McKinney Vento middle school program will take place at the Wanskuck Clubhouse of the Boys & Girls Club of Providence. It will be a six-hour, enrichment program, from 8am to 2pm, Monday through Friday. Free breakfast & lunch will be served. There will be pool access, mentoring, sports & rec activities, field trips and more. Transportation will be provided by the Providence Public School Department.

    PASA

    Providence After School Alliance (PASA) will be offering a FREE 4.5 week long STEAM camp for middle school youth in Greater Providence!

    The camp will run Monday through Friday, beginning July 5th and ending August 4th. The camp’s hours will be from 9:00am-3:30pm. The camp will include a weekly field trip to museums, aquariums, and cultural learning centers. Participants will be combining fun and learning with our science, technology, arts, and sports programs during the day! This camp will provide participants the opportunity to meet youth from across the city, engage in hands-on learning, and to venture outside of the city!

    Rising 9

    SeaPerch

    Middle school summer STEM programs joined forces to engage students in the summer SeaPerch program, which included professional development for teachers provided by Electric Boat, along with robot-building kits for students at no cost. Electric Boat and RoboNation have organized competitive events for Providence Public Schools District middle school students. These events feature obstacle courses where student teams maneuver their underwater robots, showcasing their technical prowess and collaborative spirit. 


    This program is for rising 9th graders only and will take place at DelSesto Middle School, July 8-19, Mondays-Fridays from 9:00am-3:00pm. This initiative fosters excitement and innovation among students, while also enhancing teamwork skills. Furthermore, the partnership between Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Electric Boat has led to the creation of a comprehensive pathway for students. This pathway, spanning from elementary to graduation, enables students to explore construction trades and advanced manufacturing, preparing them for promising careers in the defense industry at Electric Boat and its suppliers.

    Credit Recovery

    The purpose of the Credit Recovery initiative is to provide course access to 11th and 12th grade students for the purpose of earning credit for a course in which the student has not been academically successful.  The coursework provided by Providence School will reach out to students in need of credit recovery and engage them in challenging; highly motivational assignments that will help them get back on track.  This initiative will, additionally, alleviate the local school district’s burden of funding credit recovery programs and provide equity and access for all of our students.  Teachers will utilize the PPSD Odesseyware Summer School/Credit Recovery Curriculum.


    A-Venture OAUC

    Under the direction of the A-Venture High School Executive Director, the Executive Director  is responsible for ensuring that students who are off track for their graduation cohort year have the opportunity over the summer to continue to recover credits. A-Venture High School summer school will be  responsible for ensuring every senior leaving the Providence Public Schools after graduation has college or career goals. 

    A-Venture’s Over-Age Under-Credited (OAUC) teachers are expected to assist in the registration process once summer credit recovery starts if needed to ensure students are taking the courses they need, and completing a thorough review of student histories for students in the summer learning program. 


    MLL  Programming

    The MLL summer programming  is designed to support high school students who are new arrivals to the United States or those identified as needing comprehensive English language development to support their learning in the school year. Students will work with ESL and content certified instructors on essential math and reading skills and be offered enrichment programming to support their language development and other pertinent needs related to school.

    College Visions

    The CV College and Career Exploration Program is modeled on the highly effective curriculum used in CV’s Summer College Knowledge Workshops and Career Program. As outlined below, the program uses each participant’s Individualized Learning Plan as the cornerstone of their participation. Sessions will encourage students to engage and develop short and long-term goals related to their ILPs. Each program session will align with common core standards, and the lesson plan will include a student output that will demonstrate their mastery of standards.

    DownCity Design

    The DownCity Design Summer Design Studio, offered every summer since 2013, provides a design-based, STEAM-intensive summer workforce development experience for Providence teens. Summer Design/Build Studio is an architectural design and fabrication program and Creative Change Studio introduces teens to possible design career paths including graphic design and user experience design.

    New Urban Arts

    The overall trajectory of the summer program will be to learn about different approaches to Environmental Art through a mix of classroom learning, independent study, interactive sessions with visiting artists, and lots of field trips into nature and to local cultural institutions. Students will work on a number of smaller projects throughout the summer, and then apply what they’ve learned to a collaborative final group project, which will be installed in the pollinator garden at All Saints’ Memorial Church, across the street from New Urban Arts.

    Providence After School Alliance (PASA) in partnership with Fidelity, will be offering a 3.5 week long Financial Literacy program for high school youth in Greater Providence. Interested in building wealth? How about money, stocks, or real estate? This camp is for you! The camp will run Monday through Friday, beginning July 5th and ending July 28th. The camp’s hours will be from 9:30am-1:30pm. The camp will include weekly field trips to colleges, organizations, and cultural and entrepreneurship learning centers! Participants will receive a paid stipend for their participation in the camp as well.

    Young Voices

    Young Voices (YV) transforms urban Rhode Island youth into powerful advocates who have a voice in every aspect of their lives. Our programs guide young adults to understand critical issues, think strategically, and make their voices heard. Providence Public School youth grades 9 - 12 will be exposed to hands-on career pathways in STEM Exploration and Urban Development. Program expenses will include salaries for our program team, as well as the hiring of additional summer staff and daily transportation for youth to and from work sites.

  • Rising 9-12: Career & Technical Education (CTE) Programs

    The CTE Office will provide focused workforce development summer programs in four industry clusters- Healthcare, Law & Public Safety, Construction and Transportation.  At Rhode Island Nursing Education Center (RINEC), students will prepare for state licensure as  Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).  At PCTA, students will gain valuable hands on experience in Carpentry, HVAC, Plumbing and Automotive Service.  At Central High, students have the opportunity to take the Firefighter 1 course offered at the state and city Firefighter Academy.
