Middle School

Middle Schools

  • Students keep developing skills in middle school and apply them in more complex areas to build knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving. These are also important years for learning to organize work, manage time, set and meet goals, and work both independently and with others — and to discover interests and talents that affect decisions about high school, college, or career.

The Middle School system at Providence Public Schools serves children in grade 6 through 8 within seven middle schools – Nathan Bishop Middle School, DelSesto Middle School, Nathanael Greene Middle School, Esek Hopkins Middle School, Gilbert Stuart Middle School, West Broadway Middle School and Roger Williams Middle School. The schools focus on student achievement and growth in English Language Arts, Science, Technology and Math. Administration, teachers and teacher leaders evaluate student data to direct their lesson plans and influence student goals. Math and Literacy specialists assist students who are identified as needing additional support. A robust English Language Learners (ELL) program and Special Education Program act alongside our Family and Community Engagement (FACE) program to round off the school support structure.
