Assessments & Surveys

  • In PPSD, a comprehensive assessment and survey system exists to generate data that can be effectively used to inform the decisions of students, parents, educators, administrators, central office staff, the school board, the mayor’s office, and the public.  PPSD believes that assessing student learning, social emotional health, and language development is an essential component of educating and supporting students and must be aligned to curriculum and instruction.

     

    Assessments should measure different skills and knowledge across content areas but in a way that when the data are reviewed together, they provide a more holistic picture of student learning.  The assessments should be different types (i.e., formative, interim, summative), collect different types of data for comparison (i.e., norm-referenced and criterion-referenced), use different item types (i.e., multiple choice, constructed response), and be valid, reliable, and fair for the multiple purposes and student populations that are tested. The purpose for which the data will be used (i.e., screener, diagnostic, progress monitoring, outcome/accountability) should also be defined.  Information about the various assessments and surveys can be accessed through the links below:
